The Victorian Artists Society this week commemorated the 100th anniversary of the passing of Walter Withers, one of the famous Heidelberg School Painters, who was President of the Victorian Artists Society from October 1904 to October 1905, and a Council Member for 23 years, from 1890 to 1913.

The Victorian Artists Society, which had its beginnings in 1870 and was officially formed in 1887, with members such as Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts, Charles Conder, Louis Buvelot, Frederick McCubbin and Walter Withers, is set to launch a fundraising program to protect the heritage listed building in Albert Street, East Melbourne, opposite St Patrick's Cathedral.
