Melbourne Traffic Congestion and Public Transport

Neil Smith, with 37 years experience in transport and is the Director of Australia's largest privately owned transport company, Transit Systems,  addressed the Urban Development Institute of Australia (Victoria) August Lunch and delivered a speech - "Public transport - getting it right".

"Public Transport options go hand in hand with property development - the phrases 'easy freeway access', 'close to public transport' and 'short travel time to the CBD' form part of every property marketing campaign.

Where you have efficient and popular public transport options available, people are more likely to build homes - and this has never been more relevant than it is right now as Melbourne expands its housing through various growth corridors.

Victoria needs to take the pressure off its roads by ensuring there are smart public transport options that will actually be used and treasured by the general public, while also acting as positive selling points for new developments in outer Melbourne."
